Games 9 and 10

last week in Game 9 the Knights got what they were not expecting: a good game. the team they previously routed 21 to 4 TIED the Knights. a wild affair that saw the Knights leave the winning run on second. But good play saved the day for the Knights. But more importantly the very same Family team that tied the Knights BEAT the Mitts the game before, clincing the division for the Knights before they took the field.

The Knights came out in full force for the last game to find that Pride staff was short-handed, having only 3 girls.when in the second inning one of thier girls grounded into what looked to be a routine 6-4-3 DP a low throw to the non-glove side of 1B Jeff Moore (...oh look and error....) caught the Pride staff runner dead in the ankle, she was safe but injured. with no more girls and her unable to continue, Pride staff was forced to forfiet. "Not the way we wanted it to end, but we will take it."

So thats it folks 9-0-1, UNDEFEATED!!!!!, not perfect but close.
A great season all in all
so now we wait out until Spring!
stay tuned for Awards Ballots coming Tomorrow!

2 left to play: Knights relish magic number

with only 2 games left to play tonights showdown has the Knights looking at something they have yet to see in previous seasons: a Magic number of 1. If the Knights win OR the Mitts lose the Knights will clinch the division title. Conversley, the Mitts magic number is 4, they must win both of thiers AND the Knights must lose BOTH. one Knights win or one Mitts loss will give the Knights the division and a reason to celebrate. "It's really quite exciting" Says manager Jeff Moore "Some of us were there for the 10-loss season BARB season. And really this division title would be a wonderful vindication for all of us who have been here since day one. But it comes down to the fact that EVERY player has had a part to play and has played it well. I honestly don't think this is our best offensive line-up ever but it has come together batter than any previous incarnation of the Knights franchise. I DO believe, however, that it IS the best team from a defensive standpoint."
The game Starts tonight at 9:30, stay tuned for scores and highlights!

Games 7 & 8: Go crazy folks!

The Knights walked out on the field minus 2B Shauna Johnson on a overcast evening with two games to be played. Game 1 versus Clovis Recycling was all the warm up the Knights needed. As the Knights had homefield advantage both games Matt Moore hit a 2 run shot to open scoring as the second Knight batter of the game scoring April Chavez ahead of him. after that the rout was on. (final score forth coming) a good team effort minus birthday boy Justin Braily who would be present for game 2...

Game 2 was a wild affair, featuring the 7-0 Knights Vs. the 7-0 Mighty Mitts. a contest that featured a very low score, great defense and lots of heart and determination on both sides. an Early 2-0 lead was taken by the Mitts in the first and would later be a 4-0 lead. the Knights would come back and cut the lead to 4-3 by the 3rd inning. in the top of the 5th with the Mitts holding a 7-6 lead, the Knights would turn to Ron Melkonian to play... First!?!?! A gamble to be sure but with runners on the corners and 2 down a slow roller was hit to SS Jeff Lusk.....he charges.... the off-balance throw is low.... BUT RON DIGS IT OUT A BANG-BANG PLAY TO KEEP IT CLOSE!!!! The Knights offense would now have a chance in the bottom of the 5th. with one on Matt would HIT ONE DEEP INTO THE GAP, A TWO RUN SHOT TO GIVE THE KNIGHTS THIER FIRST LEAD OF THE GAME!!!!! However cut to the top of the 6th a lead off double, and then a triple would end up scoring 2 runs to give the Mitts a 9-8 lead.... Bottom of the 6th, last chance for the Knights. Andre De Jong lead-off with a base hit. Chris Melkonian chaches a bad pitch to pop out, 1 gone. Kendall De Jong hits one to short.... could be two... Andre out at second.... the throw to first... NOT IN TIME, hustling out of the box Kendall kept it alive for the Knights. Next up Jeff Lusk..... BASE HIT! First and second, two gone for aging Veteran Scott Hatfield.....ANOTHER BASE KNOCK UP THE MIDDLE!!! So now Bases Loaded, two down Knights down by one, all the pressure on...on..... the Captain, Jeff Moore. A confrence with pitcher Ron to be sure where they want to pitch. The first pitch ANNNNDDDD............

Games 5 & 6: New Franchise Record

In week 5 the Knights rolled to a 16 to 3 win in the best defensive showing of the season for the club. Even lacking the leadership of Captain Jeff Moore, interem manager Matt Moore filled in nicely. "Gumby" led the Knights in game 5 but would yield to managerial duties back to Jeff the next week.

Week 6 would be another standout offensive proformance for the Knights. a 20 to 5 victory would leave the season run total at 99 for the season. But more importantly it would set a new franchise record win streak at 7 games dating back to last season. Another solid proformance up and down the line-up for the Knights. But its the defense that has been the story all season for the Knights as another solid proformance held the opponents to few runs to let the Knights thunderous bats do thier thing.

Next week the Knights play a double dip Against Clovis Recycling and the Mighty Mitts.
The always tough Clovis recycling will be game 1 at 6:00 and Game 2 against the Mitts at 7:10.
With the Knights currently trailing the Mitts by a 1/2 game (the Mitts have played 1 more game) it looks like it may be the battle for the league as both teams will look to be 7-0 for thier only meeting of the season.....

Week 4: Knights Roll

Week 4 can only be described as a "beatdown, an utter beatdown" the Knights would open the game scoring and end it the same way as Family's defense could not solve the Knights attack. Ron, Matt, Justin April, and the rest of the Knights stayed hot with the bats even through the struggles of Jeff Moore as he hit last for the second consecutive week. Other Knights Paige and Jeff Lusk broke out of personal slumps to help insure the emphatic 21 to 4 victory. However it was the defense that took center stage in week 4. Not one but TWO backhand stops on hard liners by 3B Jenna Johnson saved at least 3, if not more runs. Chris Melkonian in Right Field caught the put-out and then had the outfield assist gunning down the runner at home.
A solid effort up and down the line-up should hopefully keep the Knights rolling on next week agains Havin Fun in the absence of Manager Jeff Moore...

Week 3

The Knights won the toss and took homefield advantage but Clovis Recycling quickly turned out 7 runs before the Knights Defense could secure 3 outs. In the bottom of the frame the Knights quickly responded to the 7 run assult with 6 of thier own. The Knights recived a scare in the bottom of the 2nd as lead-off hitter Jeff Moore took pitch number 4 right up the middle-a hard line drive- straight into pitcher Jeff Lusk. the Knights "D" would only allow 2 more runs and with a 9-9 tie Chris Melkonian would hit a deep sacrifice fly to left to score the go ahead run. Big bats on the night would include good pieces of hitting by Matt Moore with a first inning RBI Triple, Ron Melkonian who drove in several runs with several hits. Justin Brailey, April Chavez, Shauna Johnson and Jenna Johnson all came up with key hits as well. Really it was a great team effort as all of the Knights contributed to the victory.

The Knights will take on Family at 7:10 next week, keep it here for updates!

Weeks 1 & 2 as Knights get rolling!

in both weeks the knights held thier opponent, Havin Fun and Pride Staff respectivly, to only 4 runs as the Knights defense took center stage on both nights. Key defensive plays by almost all of the Knights have shown what time can do for a defense that greatly struggled only a year ago. New Knights Shauna Johnson, Justin Brailey, Kendall and Andre DeJung have all contributed offensivly and defensivly to the stalwart Knights regulars. In Week 1 the Knights offense featured Matt "Gumby" Moore with key RBI's using a triple and double. Justin began to show his potential and smooth swing in both games getting a key double in Week 2. Scott Hatfield hit the first round tripper of the season in Week 1, a solo job to extend a lead the Knights would not give up. But the highlight of week 1 was Ron Melkonian's long, bases loaded "double" that 1-hopped to the wall (only counted as a double because with the hit the game was effectivly over, otherwise count it as you will- it would have been at least a triple at any other time) to end the game. Week two was a slow start offensivly and on defense. but by the second both ends picked up and the Knights buckled down to secure the win with strong defensive play up the middle.

Stay tuned for Week 3 action as the Knights take on Clovis Recycling at 9:30!

The New Saeson Begins!

Additions to the Headache

Manager Jeff Moore was sorry to announce today the loss of last seasons starting 3B Kallie Klien. "however" Stated Moore "Two prospects have been added to the roster, but more on that later."

New Season, Old Worries

with the Fall 2007 season looming Knights Captain Jeff Moore has to ponder just what will the new season bring. Just one year ago the Knights were coming off of a respectable 5-5 season with much promise only to fall victim to lack of consistancy and players. That Falls 2-8 record speaks volumes to the lack of offensive consistancy. But the Fearless Leader has new reasons to be confident. Adding Back 3B Jenna Johnson is going to be a significant improvement. This will allow Kallie to be used in a variety of roles including platooning at third, which the Boss believes will improve defense all around. Also joining the Knights will be Shauna Johnson (no relation) a former Fresno State Softball player she should add a good bat and defense at possibly second or a great improvement at first. With Matt "Gumby" Moore looking like a fixture in left it should make infield choices a bit easier. #57 may be looking at reduced playing time at any position, as it has been seen he has difficulty at anywhere other than first, and even that is shaky at best. In other news the Knights are sad to announce that U Andrew Haynes will not be returning for the fall installment. A good bat and generally solid defender, his play and antics will be missed by his fellow Knights.

Game 10

As the Knights took the field for the last time this season first place was already out of the question for the struggling Knight. after a 5-0-1 start the Knights skidded for 3 straight losses. but a change was in the air as solid defense, minus a few of the captains "experiments", and good hitting led to a 12-6 knights triumph. the big stick of the night was OF/U Andrew Haynes who went 3-4 with 3 doubles and 3 runs. as the Knights finish in a 3-way tie for second and second in the league in runs for, Captain Moore thinks that next season holds even more promise than what the team may think....

Update: Games 8 & 9

on both game days 8 and 9 the Knights dropped close heart-breakers with a 9-10 loss to the Ragin Taco hooligans and a 15-12 defeat at the hands of the red hot Clovis Recycling team. Against RTH the Knights left the tying run on third marking the second time this year the knights have lost or drew with the tying or winng run only feet from home....

Knights Fall for First time this season!

in a game that saw the Knights with only 9 players present, the Knights were handed a 15 to 1 defeat. Errors abounded on defense and the usually thunderous Knight bats were silent. The Mitts played a solid game that showed why they are one of the competing teams in the league. The only real highlight the contest produced was Knights manager Jeff Moore charging accross the infield in a spectacular mental error and attempt to tag out a runner that was already out at second on a busted double play.

Welcome To the Knights home page

The Knights are a Slowpitch team established in 2005 (under the original name of BARB) by current OF/U Scott Hatfield. After an 0-10 season 1B Jeff Moore Took over and led the newly named Knights to a 5-5 season in Summer 2006 followed by a 2-8 showing in the fall. The Knights have returned in 2007 with a new passion and have greatly improved in all areas of thier play. The raw talent was always there but the Knights have begun to gel and looks forward to good play and lots of fun in the future. Check back here for game scores and descriptions.
